Youngstown Foundation Grantee Lands Prestigious National Library Award

Mary Anne Russo, a children’s librarian of the Hubbard Public Library, which received grant support from the Youngstown Foundation in 2022, was among 10 librarians across the United States selected as winners of the 2026 “I Love My Librarian” awards from the American Library Association.

The awards recognize librarians’ outstanding service, including expanding access to literacy and library services, outreach within their communities, supporting the needs of the most vulnerable and more. Russo was the only award recipient in the state of Ohio and was among the 1,300 nationwide nominations. She retired in January 2026 after a 37-year career with the library.

As the children’s librarian, she led programs the Youngstown Foundation supported, including adding or improving outdoor resources for its sensory garden, StoryWalk, outdoor musical instruments and more.

“These outdoor resources have always been a vision of Mrs. Russo, and the Foundation’s support facilitated their installation and implementation,” said Cynthia Hirtzel of the Hubbard Public Library. “It is absolutely wonderful when a dedicated librarian and colleague such as Mrs. Russo is recognized for her contributions and service.”

The Youngstown Foundation is proud to support the Hubbard Public Library and congratulates Russo on this prestigious recognition.
